Care Instructions

ALUX jewellery is made solid and designed to journey intimately with you on your path. However it is still always a good idea to take good care of your jewellery, especially gold plated pieces as this will extend the life of the plating.

Here are some care tips for Sterling Silver and 18K Gold Plated Sterling Silver pieces:

CARE TIPS FOR 18k GOLD PLATED JEWELLERY

ALUX jewellery is coated in approximately 2.5 microns of 18ct yellow gold - triple dipped and not flash plated to extend its longevity and strength. However it's still really important to take extra special care of gold plated jewellery, as the layer of gold is still really thin (one micron equals one millionth of a meter!) and will fade over time.

Following the care instructions will slow this down, but plating is a surface treatment that will need touching up after some time. Unfortunately I can’t accept returns of damaged pieces that have not had the proper care given to them. The good news is that I can re-plate your pieces for you - contact me if you need a quote.

HOW TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF GOLD PLATING

  1. Wash your hands before putting on or taking off plated jewellery.
  2. Put on plated jewellery after you’ve applied your perfume, lotion or put on makeup.
  3. Take off before cooking, as some foods are acidic with affects the metal.
  4. Avoid rubbing plated pieces against each other.
  5. Don’t swim in your plated jewellery - especially the ocean or chlorinated pools!
  6. Don’t wear your plated jewellery if you’ll be getting super sweaty.
  7. Clean your plated jewellery gently with warm water and mild soap if needed - and don’t rub it too hard - this is important! As you will rub off the plating.
  8. Store gold plated jewellery wrapped in a clean soft cloth, ideally in a sealed container or plastic ziplock bag, separate from other jewellery.

CARE TIPS FOR SILVER

  1. Remove jewellery before swimming, bathing or showering
  2. When not worn, store your jewellery in a dry airtight container.
  3. Silver will tarnish over time but you can usually remove it with a silver cloth. To clean silver pieces, delicately clean in warm, soapy water, taking extra care of the stones. Dry with a soft cotton cloth.

STORAGE

Storage is an important one. Store jewellery in an airtight container such as a ziplock bag or a tightly sealed jar and try to keep pieces separate. This stops jewellery from oxidising which will greatly extend longevity.
